Why does xDrive show 10 TB, but I still get an "Insufficient disk space" error when uploading files?

When you view xDrive in Windows File Explorer, you may notice that the drive capacity is displayed as 10 TB. However, you may still encounter an "Insufficient disk space" error or an upload failure when uploading files.

xDrive is mounted as a virtual drive in Windows and therefore requires a fixed virtual disk capacity. If the capacity is set too low, Windows may prevent files from being added to xDrive when their size exceeds the displayed available space.

For this reason, xDrive uses a fixed virtual disk capacity of 10 TB to ensure normal file operations.

Please note:

  • The 10 TB displayed in Windows is a virtual disk capacity only.

  • Your actual available cloud storage depends on your ASUS WebStorage subscription plan.

To check your available storage, sign in to the ASUS WebStorage web , where you can view your storage quota and remaining available space. For more information : How to view storage details

In addition, xDrive uses temporary storage on your system drive (typically the C: drive) during the upload process to prepare and transfer your files.

Uploads may fail with an "Insufficient disk space" error if:

  • The file or folder you are uploading is very large.

  • There is not enough free space on your local C: drive.

Even if your ASUS WebStorage account has sufficient available cloud storage, the upload may still fail if xDrive cannot create the required temporary files on your local system drive.
