How to Transfer Data from Dropbox to ASUS WebStorage?

If you decide to migrate files stored in Dropbox to ASUS WebStorage, refer to this guide.

Before You Begin

  • Check Storage Space: Please log in to your ASUS WebStorage account first, and verify that the remaining available storage space is greater than the total size of the data you plan to transfer from Dropbox.

  • Ensure Network Stability: It is recommended to perform the transfer in an environment with a stable network connection (preferably a wired network or Wi-Fi with a strong signal).

Method 1: Manual Transfer via Web Browser

Files or data can be operated directly through the browser, making it the fastest method without needing to install extra software.

  • Step 1: Download data from Dropbox Web Version

    1. Open your browser and log in to your Dropbox web version.

    2. Click "All files" in the left menu.

    3. Check the files or folders you want to transfer (multiple selections allowed).

Method 2: Transfer via Desktop Application

If you store larger and more numerous files in Dropbox, uploading via a web browser can easily be interrupted by minor network fluctuations. It is recommended to use desktop sync software, which not only offers more stable transfers but also supports resuming interrupted uploads.

  • Step 1: Install applications

    • Dropbox: Please ensure you have installed "Dropbox for Desktop". A physical Dropbox folder will appear in your local File Explorer on your computer.

    • ASUS WebStorage xDrive : Go toASUS WebStorage website to download and [install] the ASUS WebStorage xDrive desktop application. After installation, a dedicated sync folder named MySyncFolder will appear on your computer.

    • Note: ASUS WebStorage xDrive desktop cloud drive is suitable for users with limited computer space or those who need to access cloud data across multiple computers. It allows managing files like a local disk and downloading caches only when needed.

  • Step 2: Perform local "folder-to-folder" file drag and drop

    1. Open two folder windows on your computer side-by-side.

    2. Copy and paste (or drag and drop) the files from the "Dropbox folder" on the left directly into MySyncFolder on the right.

    3. The ASUS WebStorage sync program will automatically start uploading in the background. You don't need to stay in front of your computer; the system will complete all the migration work for you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can I directly upload the ZIP file downloaded from Dropbox to WebStorage?

Answer: It is recommended to extract (unzip) the file on your computer before uploading. If you upload the ZIP file directly without extracting it, you will not be able to preview or search for individual files inside on the web version.

Q2: After dragging files using Method 2, can I turn off my computer immediately?

Answer: Not recommended. When you copy files to MySyncFolder, the files are only stored on your local computer's hard drive. You must keep your computer powered on and connected to the internet until the ASUS WebStorage xDrive icon in the taskbar at the bottom right completes the upload
